Abra
- it was used in the book "East of Eden" and I just love it since reading it. I pronounce it AY-bra, even though you could also pronounce it AB-ra or AH-bra. It's beautiful and soft and could also be used by people who like Abigail, but think it's too common. You could use Abbie as a nickname for it.
- (Ay brah) I really like this name, its Hebrew, this was the name of one of triplets that use to babysit me when I was little, her sisters names were Hannah and Joanna.
The name Abra started being used as a feminine form of Abraham in 17th century England. Before that there was a 4th century French saint named Abra, but the name was probably not used in English. Abra has most recently been sighted as a character in the John Steinbook novel East of Eden.
