- Old fashioned. I think it was the name of Roald Dahl's sister in his autobiography Boy--the one who dies tragically at a young age. Also the Brazilian (I think) singer who sings 'The Girl from Iponema.' Also easy to pronounce and not too weird. This is one, however, that I will never be able to use as my children's last name will be Madrid. You see the problem?
- We have a good friend named Astrid. Astrid Lindgren is the author of the Pippi Longstocking books. The girlfriend of the ex-Beatle Stu Sutcliffe (he was the original bass player--McCartney began on guitar) was a German woman named Astrid. She originally gave the Beatles their long round haircuts that was their signature look for their first few years.
- My old screen name. It sounds classical and mysterious, doesn't it?
- sounds kinda sci-fi
Astrid is used in Scandinavian languages; it is derived from ass "god" and frithr "beautiful; beloved."
