Audrey
- This is a long-time favourite of mine. It sounds nice.
- Audrey Kate or Audrey Rose is pretty because the two names fit together. It sounds very much like a modern girl name. I hope to name my daughter Audrey.
- After the style icon herself, Audrey Hepburn. I feel Audrey is a wonderful vintage name that many feel is old fashioned nowadays, but I think it still sounds stylish and original on 2004.
- very graceful
- Audrey Hepburn is my favorite actress and I think this name sounds very elegent and feminine.
- Audrey Elise: Audrey was my grandmother's name. Unfortunately, I never met her, but apparently she was beautiful and graceful- something I would like my daughter to be. Elise is my best friend's name, but I also think it's a sophisticated, yet sweet name. The whole name flows so well and will fit any girl. I'm only 14 so any children are in the future but this is my first daughter's name.
Audrey is an English surname, coming from the Old English Aethelthryth, meaning "noble strength." There was a 7th century British St. Aethelthryth (Etheldreda or Audrey in English). In the later middle ages, a fair was held on her feast day, which sold cheap lace. From this origin "St. Audrey," we get the word "tawdry" meaning "cheap; poorly fashioned." Because of this association, the name fell out of favor. It was revived in the 19th century, and hit its peak in the 1920s. Audrey is undergoing another popular spell, being at another peak of popularity in 2012.
