Bethany

In the New Testament, Bethany is the name of the place where Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead. Its name possibly comes from Aramaic beth-anya meaning 'house of misery' or Hebrew beit-te'enah' 'house of figs.' It has been in regular use for girls in the U.S.A since at least 1919, though it hit its peak of popularity in the 1980s.
