Birdesmonde

(Berdz-mund)- I found this in a namebook years ago, its Anglo-Saxon and means "bird guardian." I think it would make a real unique and strong name on a girl, I also like the fact that it can be shortened to Birdy.

I can't find reference to this name anywhere! While it's true that mund is an Englo-Saxon element meaning "protector; guardian" (found in names like Edmund, Osmund and Rosamund), I'm not sure about the "birdes" part. In doing a little research, it looks like the Anglo-Saxon word for "bird" was "fugel" or "fogel" (cognate to modern German vogel). A lot of name books are really inaccurate, but I'll keep digging!
