Blake

Blake is an English surname coming from two Old English words, one meaning "black," and the other meaning "pale; white." Both were originally used as nicknames for people who had either black hair or pale skin (i.e., calling someone Black Haired John to distinguish him from the other Johns in town.) In addition, it is also used as an anglicization of the Irish surname Ó Bláithmhaic, which means "descendant of Bláthmhaic," a personal name which is made up of elements meaning "flower; blossom; fame; prosperity" and "son."
