Bridget

This is an anglicization of the Irish name Bríd or Bríghid. The most common Irish anglicization is Brigid (see also); Bridget being a later version, used when the name of one of Ireland's patron saints (St. Brigid of Kildare) became confused etymologically with one of Sweden's patron saints (Brigitta or Birgitta). The Irish name comes from an Old Irish word meaning "exalted, high goddess."
