Caedmon
- A boy's name. It means "poet" or "wise." It sounds like a gentle person, a smiling child or twinkle-eyed old man with a soft yet strong voice; always a story to tell, always an encouraging word to give.
- Caedmon Brody: (pronounced Kaydmon) Caedmon is an Old English/Gaelic name that can mean either "poet" or "wise soldier." We liked the idea of being a wise soldier of Jesus Christ. Brody means "second son," so we're saving this name for our second son, should we have one.
Caedmon was a 7th century saint, and the earliest English poet whose name is known. He supposedly learned all of his musical skills in a dream. The first part of his name is derived from Welsh caed meaning "battle." The second part is unknown. In recent years the name has been brought to public attention through the Christian rock band Caedmon's Call.
