Carolina
- (Care-oh-ly-nuh), I like Caroline but its way too common, and I think this is a lot more elegant. I think Lina would be a pretty nickname.
- (pronounced either Caro-lye-na or Caro-lee-na)--pretty name-- always reminds me of the James Taylor song, Carolina On My Mind--more unique than say, Virgina or Georgia. Sounds classic, and can be shortened to either the conformist Carrie or the more unique Lina (in both cases, probably best pronounced Leena. Lye-na just sounds weird.)
Carolina, pronounced /car oh LEE na/ is the Spanish, Italian and Portuguese feminine form of Charles (Carlos, Carlo). Pronounced /kair oh LINE a/, it's the name of two U.S. States (North and South Carolina). These states were named after King Charles I, who was king of England when they became states (Carolus is the Latin form of Charles). Click here for more forms of Carolina.
