Cassia
- this is Greek for cinnamon and I think its a prettier alternative to Cassie or Cassandra.
- This is name of a character in two books I've read, The Serpents Children and Light. The character is a strong, intelligent girl, but a little She's one of my favorite book characters, and my favorite in the books. The name is exotic and beautiful.
- A name, graceful and feminine. Not only the name of a tree in the laurel but it's in the Bible, as the name of a spice used in offerings to the Lord and the name of one of Job's daughters.
Cassia has two origins-- it can be a Roman name, feminine form of Cassius. In this case, it likely comes from the Latin cassus meaning "empty; vain."
Cassia is also used as an anglicization of the Biblical Hebrew name Ketziah (also found as Keziah). In the bible, Keziah was a daughter of Job. Keziah comes from Qetz'ia, which literally means "peel of the plant" and and refers to Cinnamomum iners , a tree of the laurel family from which we get the cinnamon spice.
