Cecil

I prefer the SESS-il pronunciation. I think it makes it sound a little fresher and more dapper than doddering SEE-sil.

Cecil can be a form of Caecilius, a Latin name meaning "blind." As such, it was occasionally used in English in the middle ages. However, in the 16th century Cecil became used more popularly as a first name in honor of the Cecils, a nobly family. In this case Cecil is an anglicized version of Seissylt, the Welsh version of the Latin name Sextilius meaning "sixth."
