Cedric

There is some debate about the meaning of the name Cedric. Some scholars think it comes from Cerdic, and was the result of a copying error in Sir Walter Scott's novel Ivanhoe where it first appeared in print. This may be, because Cerdic was a legendary Saxon who founded Wessex in England. However, it may also be a form of the Welsh name Cedrych, which comes from ced, "bounty; boon" + drych, "spectacle; pattern."
