Chalet

(SHELL-ay) It's not too common, and very beautiful. It means something similar to "castle" in French, I believe. It has special significance to me because it's the place where I have lived my entire life. Besides having fond memories, the name is very feminine but not weak. That's why I like it so much.

Pronounced /shah LAY/, a chalet is a wooden building that originated in the Alps of Switzerland. Originally chalets were seasonal homes for herders, and the word comes from Latin calittum meaning "shelter."
