The Cheyenne are an Algonquin-language speaking nation. The word "cheyenne" comes from a Lakota Sioux word for them of unknown meaning. There are several places around the USA named Cheyenne, and as a first name it gained popularity in the 1990s along with a trend for western-sounding names and place names.
