Colum

This is my favorite boy's name. It is pronounced Kaw-lum and is very unusual today, even in Ireland. It comes from Irish Gaelic and means "dove." In the past the name was often bestowed in honor of Saint Columba, the Irish saint who traveled to the Scottish island of Iona to spread Christianity. Similar names such as Callum, Calum, and Colm (in approximate order of popularity) are commonly used in Brittain and Ireland today, but Colum is not. I think it is a great alternative.
