Coraline

Invented, as far as I can tell, by Neil Gaiman, writer of the Sandman graphic novels and other books, such as American Gods, as well as the mind-bending fantasy film Mirrormask. Coraline is the title character of his recent children's book, a dark fantasy many critics have hailed as a new Alice in Wonderland. The name sounds like a whimsical variant of Caroline, and can be shortened to Coral or Cora.
