Danica

In most Slavic languages where this name is used, Danica is pronounced /dah NEET sa/. It is derived from a slavic word meaning "morning star." Danica is not related to the Hebrew name Daniel ("god is my judge") although many lazy baby name book writers may list that as a meaning. Occasionally people have used as a feminine form of Daniel in lieu of more etymologically sound forms like Danielle/Daniela. At least one baby name book I know of has listed Danica as being an Irish name. I think this one was confusing it with the name Donnacha /DUN nikh a/, an Irish boys' name to which it has no connection.
