Deirdre
- I love this name because of its poetic, lyrical sound and also because it is very unusual in the United States. I like the Irish legend of Deirdre as well, even though the story is a tragic one. I also love Celtic names. The meaning is unclear (I have come across many possibilities) but I like them all, at least to an extent, and the name is beautiful in itself.
- Deirdre-I've been in love with this name since i first read it in the Anne Rice novel "The Witching Hour". It's Irish for Brokenhearted Heroine.
- I have a thing for Irish names
- Deirdre Lizbeth Anne: Such an old name you don't hear very often in our parts. Still trying to convince my hubby to go for it. He has reservations yet.
Deirdre is a very old Irish name. In Irish myth, Deirdre (sometimes referred to as Deirdre of the Sorrows) is a prominent heroine. Its meaning and origin is obscure, but some scholars think it may mean "she who chatters."
