Desha

(DEE-shay) Desha County was where my aunt was born, and therefore that is what her parents named her. I was almost named after her myself, but my parents decided on Rene instead (hey, it sounds the same). It is a very uncommon name, but isn't too far-fetched.

Desha county in Arkansas is named after Benjamin Desha (1790-1835), a veteran of the War of 1812. His ancestors were French Huguenots, so the name surname Desha is probably French in origin, though it may be an altered form of the original name.
