Devon

Devon is much better than plain old Evan.

Pronounced /DEV in/, Devon is a place name in England. It may derive from the Dumnonii, the Roman name for the inhabitants (thought to mean "valley-dwellers" in Celtic). As a first name, Devon started being used in the USA in the mid 20th century, though it didn't take off in popularity until the 1990s when it also became popular for girls.

In the USA, Devon is sometimes pronounced /deh VON/. In this case, it is an African-American name, created by adding the prefix de- to the name Vaughan/Vaughn.
