Donaji

This is a Spanish name that has a great legend to go with it. I won't go into details but it involves a young princess dying to save her people. Many Mexicans will recognize it, and it means "Great Soul". Pronounced Doe-nah-HEE.

Donají was the name of a Zapotec princess (in the region of Oaxaca, Mexico) who lived around the time of the Spanish conquest. She was taken hostage and beheaded. According to legend, an ever-blooming lily flowered over where she was buried by the Atoyac River. Her severed head is still featured in Oaxaca City's coat of arms.
