Dylan
The name Dylan was relatively unknown outside Wales before the poet Dylan Thomas (1914-1953) became internationally known. Dylan's origins are obscure; the second element is probably connected to the Welsh word for "sea; tide." The first element is unknown, but may come from a Welsh word meaning "great." Another scholar has put forth that it comes from a different Welsh word, one that means 'influence.' In Welsh mythology, Dylan was a sea deity.
