Eleanor
- this name is nice both as a full name and I like that it has some lovely nickname options, like Nora, Ellie and Leni
- My grandmother's name. It seems like a beautiful person from the '20s.
- this name has so many nicks there is sure to be one which fits a child if the classic Eleanor does not. And of course Eleanor Roosevelt was a great woman.
- I love this name! It has great nicknames (Nora, Ellie). It will sound appropriate for any age.
- from Jane Austin's Sense and Sensibility- even if it was spelt Elinor, a remarkable character- top name on list for current baby if girl!.
- At the top of my list for girls in Eleanor. The story of Eleanor of Aquitaine was key in helping us select this for our daughter, as was its connection to Eleanor Roosevelt and its relative obscurity in this Age of Mikayla. I also like Eleanor for the short form, Nora, for a number of reasons: its Irish flavor, its connection to Ibsen and Joyce, its unfussy femininity. So, do I count Eleanor/Nora as one name or two? To be fair to Nora as a name in its own right I will count Eleanor in the first position followed closely by Nora.
- Eleanor Juliet (nick name Ella)-This combo is definitely my favorite by far. I LOVE the name Eleanor to pieces and the nick name Ella. I always have. I love the superb historical/classical connotations (ex: Eleanor of Aquitaine) Additionally, Eleanor was the name of my great grandmother who passed away due to Alzheimer's Disease. She really meant a lot to my mother and me, and since I already loved the name anyway, it was just a double bonus to love a name that honors a very special person. I love the strong Shakespearean associations that Juliet has, and I love it's very feminine sound.
This is an Old French name of uncertain origin, a form of the Provençal name Alienor. It is often said to be connected to the name Helen, but it is most likely of Germanic origin. It was brought to England by Eleanor of Aquitaine in the 12th century.
