Elizabeth
This is the English form of Elisabet, the Greek form of the Biblical Hebrew name Elisheva meaning "my God is an oath" or "my God is abundance." In use in English since the middle ages, its popularity has lasted a long time, possibly due to the fact that each generation seems to invent a new pet form of it: Bess/Bessie, Betty, Betsy, Liz, Beth, etc. Other forms are: Isabel, Isabella, Liza, Lisa, Eliza, Elsie, Bette, Ellie etc. Click here for other forms of Elizabeth.
