Elle was first brought to public attention as a name by Australian model Elle Macpherson (born Eleanor Nancy Gow in 1963) in the 1980s. It was also used for the name of the protagonist of the Legally Blonde movies (2001 & 2003) who was played by American actress Reese Witherspoon.
