Estella
- Estella has been my favourite name for years. Sure, it's a little stuffy, but with all the Stellas that are soon to be running around, who will notice the one letter difference really? You will and little Estella will. You can still call her Stella, or Ella, or Essa or Stel or what have you, but now instead of having to be Stella W. or Stella J. in class, she will simply be Estella. (If you're still stuck on Stella, go with it. Despite its rising popularity, it is a fantastic name. I guess it also depends on whether you're more of a Charles Dickens or Tennessee Williams fan.)
- Estella has been a favorite of mine ever since I read Great Expectations in high school. It has an old world feel without reminding me of an old lady. Even though the character wasn't really a good person, only her good qualities such as beauty, culture and magnetism rubbed of on the name.
Estella is a form of Estelle, a medieval French name derived from the word for "star."
