Evadne is the Latin form of Euadne, a Greek name of uncertain meaning. In Greek mythology Evadne was yet another woman who committed suicide upon the death of her lover (see also: Phaedra, Phyllis, Hero). This one did it by leaping onto the funeral pyre of her dead husband's corpse.
