Fauna is a Latin word that refers to all animal life at a given time or a given region. As a first name it was first brought to public attention in the USA by the 1959 Disney animated movie Sleeping Beauty, in which the three fairy godmothers of the main character are named Flora (pertains to plant life), Fauna, and Merryweather.
