Flint

My husband and I picked out this name for a boy before I was even pregnant. One day we were discussing names in our families, and he mentioned that his grandmother's maiden name was "Flint." At the same time, we both said, "You know, that would make a nice boys name!" I think it has a strong sound to it, I love the family connection, and I really like the uniqueness. I was surprised to find it in my baby names book (one book lists the meaning as "rock" another as "stream"), since I had never heard of a Flint before. I did end up having a boy, and the name definately suits him. He is very strong, and definately has his own opinions!

Flint is a hard sedimentary rock that was often used to make stone tools in previous eras. As a name, Flint is an English surname originally given to someone who either lived by a large deposit of flint, or else had a "flinty" (i.e., hard-hearted) personality.
