Genesis comes from Greek meaning "birth" or "creation." It is the first book of the Bible that tells the story of the creation of the earth. As a name it came to English-speaking public attention by Genesis Moss, a character on the MTV program The Real World in the mid 1990s. Before that it had been used pretty much solely in Spanish-speaking communities for both boys and girls.
