Georgiana
- Okay, so it's a little pretentious. It is also absolutely stunning. It has a classic, Victorian feel to it and definitely demands attention and respect. If you don't want your child to stand out quite so much (or think it may be too much to shout out in a playground) try a nickname like Georgie (a la Georgie Henley) or Ana.
- I came across Georgiana through Pride and Prejudice and absolutely love it. It's the name of Darcy's sister, and a nicer, more elegant variant on the name "Georgia" And "Georgie" is always an adorable nickname.
This feminine form of George has been used in English since the 18th century. George comes from the Greek Georgios meaning "farmer."
