Godiva

(Guh-dy-vuh) I know its the name of the chocolate company (but who cares anyway I love their chocolate) but I love the story of Lady Godiva and she was such a strong woman.

Godiva is a form of the Old English name Godgyfu, which is formed from the elements god meaning "god" and gyfu meaning "gift." The most famous Godiva is Lady Godiva, a 13th century English noblewoman who, according to legend, rode naked through the streets of Coventry so that her husband might lift the taxes that were oppressing his tenants. In respect, the villagers all turned their backs except for one tailor who peeked at her and was struck blind. Ever after he was known as Peeping Tom, and the phrase has stuck around since then.
