Gunnar

Gunnar comes from an Old Norse name composed of the elements gunnr "war" and arr, "soldier." It may have come to public attention as a name in the 1980s with the rise to fame of the band Nelson, one of the twin singers (and sons of tragic television star Ricky Nelson) was named Gunnar Nelson (born 1967). Since then it has been used sporadically following on the heels of other -er names like Tyler, Hunter, etc. It is sometimes spelled Gunner, like the soldier's profession (i.e. tailgunner). In this case it follows the trend of seemingly-masculine "violent" type names, like Hunter, Cannon & Archer.
