Hero

In Greek Mythology, Hero was a priestess of Aphrodite who was in love with Leander, a man from across the Hellespont strait. Every night Leander would swim to meet Hero, except one night he drowned in a storm. Hero threw herself into the sea in grief. Hero was also the name of a character in Shakepeare's Much Ado About Nothing. The name is derived from the Greek heros meaning "hero."
