Hilary

means Merry & cheerful. it's also my name. It got a bad rap in the 90s but I enjoyed it.

Hilary was originally an English surname derived from the Norman French hilaris meaning "happy; cheerful" (the same root as the word "hilarious.") It was originally used for boys, but in the 20th century became more popular for girls. In the USA it was getting popular in the 1980s, but then its popularity rapidly declined in the 1990s with First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton coming on the scene. It enjoyed a minor revival in the mid 2000's when Hillary Clinton ran for president, but its popularity has declined again.
