This can either be a form of the Hebrew Ilana, or else a Hungarian name, possibly derived from Helen. The Hungarian version has been borrowed into Latvian, Estonian and Czech. It it not connected to the Finnish word ilona meaning "as a joy," though it has been mistaken to have come from that root.See Also: Ilana
