Jack
- This is just the average, wholesome American name. I fully intend to name my first son Jack. Of course, my love of this name has nothing to do with the fact that I just happened to start preferring it right after I had seen Titanic for the very first time.
- I like this name because of its simplicity and its wildness. It sounds like a character in a great adventure novel, or a great romance, or both!
- A lot of people have this name, but I still love it. Simple and traditional. It also reminds me of Jack Skellington off of the Nightmare Before Christmas, haha. Tim Burton is a genius...
- short, tough, and is almost descriptive. To have the name Jack, you need to be good and solid, or tough and mean. And, you probably want to be a better man........Kudos to Jack Nicholson. Jack is as good as it gets. (Yes, I really said that!)
- I LOVE the name JACK-cause it has a nice sound to it.
- Strong sounding and can't be shortened, suits young and old alike, reminds me of someone with a determined character
- a sweet name.
- classic, strong
- NOT a nickname for John. John, to me, is too plain. Jack is spunky, fun. And Jackie is cute for a little boy.
- a bit too common for me but I love the sound of the name, short, strong sounds in the name, great for a grown man, a confident sounding name
- Jack Barnaby: a really cute, fun name
- Jack Robert: Very powerful sounding. But still cute for a little boy.
Jack started out as a medieval pet form of John. In the middle ages, pet forms were made by adding the suffixes -kin or -cock to names. Jack was a shortening of Jankin. Many of these pet forms survive in surname form, such as Jenkins, Hodgkin (Hodge was a short form of Roger), Hancock (form of Henry), and Hitchcock (Hitch was a short form of Richard).
