(Jay-diss)- Jadis is the name of the white witch in the Chronicles of Narnia books by C. S. Lewis.  I love this name because it's beautiful and unusual without being strange enough to guarantee a child a life of being made fun of.

Jadis was the name of the White Witch in C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia. Lewis may have based this name on the French phrase jadis meaning "of old" and used as the opening in fairy tales (akin to the English "once upon a time). He also may have borrowed the Turkish word cadi meaning "witch" (from Persian jadu "witchcraft").
