Jessie

This is my own name, and I have to support it, because not a lot of people use it as a full name. I don't like the name "Jessica" much at all. "Jessie" is a full name, having been used for girls since the Victorian times or earlier. I hope parents who would consider choosing the name "Jessica" for a baby because they want to use the nickname "Jessie" might consider "Jessie" as their baby's full name instead. :-)

Jessie is now considered to be a diminutive form of Jessica. However, it was originally a Scottish diminutive of Jean (feminine form of John). It even had its own Scottish Gaelic form: Teasaig /CHESS ig/. It is also used sometimes as a feminine form of Jesse.
