• I associate this name with friendship, both as Jonathan in the Bible and as my dear friend Jonathan Hayward.  I would want my son to know how to be a good friend to others.
• Jonathan Brendan: Jonathan is the name of my late father and this name honors him. Brendan is a boy I knew a long time ago that taught me all about love and life. He is a large piece of my heart.
• Jonathan Matthew: Jonathan is the name of King David's best friend in the Bible, and also the name of one of my very good friends. Matthew is another great biblical name.

Jonathan is the English form of the Hebrew Yehonatan meaning "God has given."
