Jude
- I think if you're Jewish already this may be a step too far, but if you're just in search of a name that is easy to pronounce, easy to spell and still holds all kinds of wonderful characteristics, this is certainly one to keep in mind! It works on all ages and looks and sounds sophisticated, but not pretentious. It works on a sports star or a lawyer. Of course, it goes without saying that many people will automatically sing, "Hey Jude," when they're first encountering your child, but hey, that's a wonderful song with which to be associated!
- "Hey Jude, don't make it bad. Take a sad song and make it better." Thanks to that song-"Hey Jude" by The Beatles-this is my number-one boys' name. That's how I first discovered this name and I fell in love with it. It's very rare, and simple and short but oddly beautiful. It makes me imagine a tragic anti-hero of a romance novel set in the 1800s (those novels are my guilty pleasure, I'm not ashamed to say). I think it especially sounds nice with Lennon, for the amazing John Lennon himself, or even Lennox.
- I just love this name because it sounds so sophisticated, and sexy! It reminds me of Jude Law....an absolute plus-side!
- It means "one who is praised". I also really love the book in the Bible "Jude".
- I like this name because it is my favorite of all the names in the bible. It sounds proud, and kind.
- I love Jude, it's a great, underused classic. I have loved it ever since I read Jude the Obscure. Plus, there's St. Jude, the patron saint of Lost Causes [seems appropriate for me!] I hope it doesn't get too popular now because of the actor Jude Law...I'm also worried that if I named a child Jude, people would be compelled to say "Hey, Jude!" every time they saw him. This fate befell a school friend of mine, but her name was Judy!
- first name of Jude Law, one of my favorite actors, also in the famous Beatles' song.
- Jude/Judah: Hebrew-Simple and clean-cut
- Jude Alexander: Jude is, of course, for Jude Law, the best and most handsome guy on the planet. Alexander is my father's name, and it's always carried a certain masculinity that appeals to me.
Jude is a form of Judah, which comes from the Hebrew Yehudah meaning "praised." Jude has long been a popular name with Catholics in honor of St. Jude, the patron saint of lost causes. In the 20th century, Jude was better known for being the subject of the 1968 song "Hey Jude" by the Beatles. It was written by Paul McCartney for John Lennon's son Julian. When making it up, McCartney originally had it "hey, Jules" but later thought that "Jude" sounded better.
