Kayla
- is a very popular name, but I loved it before it was and I'll tell you why. It's simple and can fit any personality the child grows into, it's feminine, and it's recognizable with an exotic flair. I think of a beautiful young woman with grace and dignity. My favorite meaning behind it (and it has many) is Wise Child.
- very soft and smooth, makes me think a kind, adorable little girl
- It's beautiful and melodic and conjures up an image of someone beautiful in spirit.
- Yiddish form of Kelila. I am Jewish so I prefer Biblical, Hebrew and Yiddish names a lot, and [this name] particularly because it works as a secular name and a jewish name as well
- Kayla Deserae: Kayla is a very popular name but it isn't as popular combined with Deserae
Though Kayla may have been used in Yiddish for centuries (possibly as a form of Michaela, Celia or Kelila), in modern American usage it probably represents a 20th century coinage. In English it is probably a blend of Kay + the -la ending. It was used sporadically since the 1930s until the character of Kayla Brady came on the television soap opera "Days of our Lives" in the early 1980s, then it started being used more often. For the record, I know at least two parents of Kaylas born in the 1980s who think they invented the name (and then were dismayed to meet other little Kaylas)!
