Kyra
- ( K eye Ra): I like this name because It is a very nice name and my mother likes it
- Kyra Liana (pro. K-eye-ruh Lee-on-uh) because it's my oldest daughter's name.I got it from a romance novel and thought it sounded beautiful and feminine.
- Kyra Kathleen (Kyra prounouced with an "i" sound such as in "pier.") Something old-fashioned, I suppose, but if I'd had a girl instead of a boy, this would have been the name I chose for a daughter. It has a melodic quality -- romantic enough for a heroine in a Victorian novel, endearing enough for a small girl with a head of curls, yet sophisticated enough for a mature business-minded woman.
Kyra comes from ancient Greek kyros which is a form of the Persian word kurush. Scholars have suggested a number of meanings for this name, among them "the sun", "like sun", "young", "hero" to "humiliator of the enemy in verbal contest." It is often associated with the word kyrios, meaning "lord," though it probably shares no etymological connection. It is the feminine form of Cyrus.
