Leslie

Leslie started out as a Scottish surname, derived from the place name of Lesslyn in Aberdeenshire. It may be derived from the words leas cuilinn meaning "place of holly" in Scottish Gaelic. According to name book author Leslie Dunkling, in England, Leslie is the common spelling for males, whereas Lesley is used for females. In the USA, Leslie is the usual spelling, and it is used more often for girls (it's a very rare boys' name in the USA).
