Lev


Lev is used in Russian as a cognate of the Latin Leo meaning "lion" (pronounced L'YEV). It was the real name of both Russian Marxist revolutionary Leon Trotsky and novelist Leo Tolstoy. Lev was also popular among Russian Jews because it also means "heart" in Hebrew. Pronounced /LEV/ It is used as an independent Hebrew name.
