Liam
- who doesn't love Liam Neeson?
- The Irish form of William, meaning "resolute protector." I like it as an alternative to the classic name William and also because it is Irish. I also
think it sounds very lyrical, almost like music, as well as artistic. I can see Liam as a little boy and as a strong, sensitive man.
- short, sweet, great way to honor a William.
- Theres this cute little boy in the nursery school that i volunteer at and hes got curly blonde hair and i wanna steal him. but i wont.
- Short for William.
- Its hard to say why I favor this name so much, A great love of my life had an SCA character named Liam and I've liked the name ever since. It is Scottish, I know that much.
- Not just an Irish name (they weren't the only people to have thought up the idea of taking the last part of William and using it as a direct name). Gives you the image of either a laddish, all-round regular bloke or one of the cute little kids in your chidren's nursery.
- I adore this name for a boy, because of its strong Irish background. I can see a sturdy, handsome man, or a sweet, innocent little boy when I hear this name. It's also underused.
- A form of William that works much better with my last name than the original, which would simultaneously honor the Irish part of my heritage, and my favorite Williams--Wallace, Shakespeare, and Wilberforce.
- is a simpler and softer form of strong "William" - with out the Bill nicknames. It also reflects the Celtic history on my side of the family.
- It makes you think of an Asian circus performer, who is worldly known.
- great Irish name
- Love those Irish names. Short, easy to remember, easy to say, and a beautiful name for a boy. Not too popular (and I hope it doesn't get too popular).
- Liam Benjamin: My second born's name. Liam was actually selected because of the ease of pronunciation from one language to another. In any language but English, the name Liam would be pronounced almost the same way, a big concern for us, since my inlaws mostly speak Spanish. We also looked into it, and Liam is Hebrew for "my nation" besides being an Irish nickname of William. Benjamin was picked because it was my husband's favorite, but, our last name being Cardozo, it would have been the same name as a former Supreme Court justice. My husband is a big admirer of Benjamin Franklin as well.
- Liam Dominic: This is my absolute favorite combo! Liam is such a great name and Dominic compliments it perfectly. Liam is such a strong name but it also works wonderfully on a curly-haired little boy. Dominic is handsome and makes me think of Dominic Monaghan (Lord of the Rings and Lost)
Liam is a short form of Uilliam, the Irish form of William. It is used as a name in its own right now, and has far surpassed Uilliam in popularity. Incidentally, the actor Liam Neeson's name at birth was William.
