Lila

• I love this name. I looked up the meaning in a name book and it said it can be a diminutive of Delilah, but Delilah has a bad Biblical reputation and is, in my opinion, just a little too much. But Lila captures all of Delilah's sensuality and seductiveness without being an over the top porn star epithet.

  My great grandmother was named this. I always felt it had a beautiful, flower-like sound to it. I love two names that are tied together.

Lila is most likely a modern name, based on either the name Delilah or perhaps the name Layla. It is probably inspired by the lilac flower. It was most popular in the USA in the late 1800s and early 1900s, though it's currently enjoying a bit of a resurgence in use.
