Lilith

• There are a lot of legends about this name; that it was the first woman God made (before Eve) who was cast out of the Garden of Eden for not submitting to Adam's desires; and that it was the name of the first female demon or vampire. But I think it's a very strong yet beautiful name, although the "th" at the end can be hard for some people to pronounce. I know, since it's been my nickname for 5 years and a lot of people shorten it to "Lil" when they can't say it!
• I chose the name Lilith because it is Hebrew for "Night Monster" if our child is anything like the other kids in my family the name will fit.
• Lilith Zosia - Lilith is a lovely biblical name that, depending on how you look at it, is strong and capable or defiant & evil. I like the strong & capable feeling. :) I think it's easily spelt as well as pronounced (well, some children lisp, but that goes away!). The meaning "of the night" from Sanskrit is lovely as well, especially if the child is born at night. Zosia - Is the Polish form of Sophia. A lovely way to honor Polish Great Auntie Sophia while avoiding the über popularity of Sophia (Sophia's #20 for 2003, in the US, Zosia's nowhere on the list!)

According to Hebrew folk tradition, Lilith was the first wife of Adam, who was banished as she refused to be subservient to her husband. She appears in the bible only once, as a word sometimes used to translate the word for 'screech owl' in Isaiah 34:14 of the Hebrew Bible. This may come from the fact that Lilith has had a long past as a Mesopotamian storm demon whose name may mean 'night' and who is often depicted as having wings and bird talons.
