Livia
- it has a regal sound, without being terribly old fashioned. It can be shortened to 'Liv' which I think is quite a powerful sounding name for a woman.
- I find it prettier, shorter and more uncommon than the very popular Olivia. It is a derivation of the Roman family name Livius. The meaning may be "blue" but it is uncertain.
In modern times, Livia is seen as a short form of Olivia, but it is actually a much older separate name. Livia was used by the Romans as a feminine form of Livius. The origin of Livius is unknown, but some speculate that it could be related to the lividus bush.
