Llywelyn

An old Welsh name with lots of history. In English most people pronounce it like "Lou-Ellen," and it doesn't sound as nice as it does in Welsh.

This old Welsh name is either a combination of the Celtic god names Lug & Belen or derived from the Welsh word for "leader." It is pronounced /hlee WEL in/ (the "LL" sound is difficult to transcribe phonetically in English). The spelling Llewelyn is also used, this was coined to incorporate the Welsh word llew meaning "lion."
